Use April as a planning anchor, not an unchecked promise
Annual income tax return and AFS filing requires a calendar for the particular taxpayer. April 15 is the normal anchor for many calendar-year annual returns. Fiscal-year corporations use a different year-end basis.
Extensions can change the deadline. For the 2025 annual returns filed in 2026, BIR extended filing, payment and attachments to May 15, 2026. A later limited AFS resubmission relief ran to May 25 for specified system issues. Do not reuse either extension for a future year.
Confirm the return and documents
Check taxpayer identity, year-end, applicable form, tax treatment and filing channel. Confirm whether audited statements, withholding certificates, related-party information or other attachments are required.
Assign a preparer, reviewer and client approval owner. Missing information should have a due date before the filing deadline.
Reconcile before the final review
Compare the trial balance, financial statements and return. Reconcile prior payments and claimed credits to the evidence. Investigate differences rather than carrying forward last year’s numbers.
Keep the final approved version distinct from working drafts. Ask the client to confirm unresolved facts before submission.
Filing is not finished without evidence
Keep return confirmation, payment proof and attachment acknowledgement. Electronic return filing does not by itself prove that every attachment was submitted. Check the current eAFS procedure and any officially announced contingency.
OLi Audit can track these as separate tasks. A simple completion checklist makes missing acknowledgements visible. See the 2307 guide before claiming withholding credits.
