Start with the day, then the employee

Holiday pay computation in the Philippines starts with classification. Check the official proclamation for the date. A regular holiday, special non-working day and special working day are different. Do not copy the previous year’s calendar.

Confirm whether the employee is covered and whether the date is also their scheduled rest day. Monthly-paid arrangements and more favorable agreements need their own review.

Regular and special non-working days

For covered employees, work on a regular holiday is generally paid at 200% for the first eight hours. Eligible unworked regular holidays generally carry 100% pay, subject to the attendance conditions.

Work on a special non-working day generally carries 130% for the first eight hours. An unworked special non-working day generally follows no work, no pay, unless a favorable policy, practice or agreement provides otherwise. A special working day is generally treated as an ordinary working day.

A simple ₱800 daily-rate example

Assume a covered employee, an eight-hour day, a basic daily rate of ₱800 and no additional favorable arrangement. Worked regular holiday. ₱800 × 2 = ₱1,600. Worked special non-working day. ₱800 × 1.3 = ₱1,040.

If the date is also the rest day, the first-eight-hour factors generally become 260% for a regular holiday and 150% for a special non-working day. That gives ₱2,080 and ₱1,200 respectively. These are total day amounts, not amounts to add again to an already counted daily wage.

Keep the payroll explanation easy to follow

Record the date classification, rest-day status, hours and factor beside the calculation. Review overtime and night hours separately. A clean worksheet should let another reviewer reproduce the result.

OLi HR can connect the calendar, reviewed attendance and configured pay rules. Before rollout, test one holiday that overlaps a rest day and reconcile the result. See our overtime and night differential guide.
